The Cost of Discipleship in Christianity

Becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ entails requirements such as being part of the Christian family by helping to preach the gospel around the world, helping the needy, following all the teachings taught by Jesus as well as the Commandments given by God. Jesus gave the disciples the power to make more disciples across the globe and carry out baptism as well. Any teaching on Christian discipleship cannot end without the mention of Jesus Christ just like Wood Science and Todd Shupe.

The cost of becoming a disciple of Christ is incomparably painful. Getting saved costs individuals no fee at all but then becoming a disciple of Christ calls for sacrifice and commitment. Discipleship means giving up all we have for the sake of Jesus. Christs used three elements to present His teachings on the cost of discipleship.

Discipleship means owning nothing else apart from Jesus Christ. A Christian should not allow other people to make them sin. Human beings should never be allowed to dictate the kind of relationship we have with our Creator. When Our thoughts or family drag us away from God, we should give up on them and follow Christ. God asks human beings to obey their parents to live long on earth but this does not mean we cannot disobey them when they make us break the Lord’s commandments. Asking the wives to be submissive to their husbands is only applicable where righteousness is concerned but they are supposed to turn to Christ every time the men use submission as a tool to fall into sin.

Jesus taught that for one to be His follower, they must leave all the wishes for earthly things and follow Him. He encouraged the disciples to have the urge to be part of Him. Christ was crucified on the cross just to save the sinful human beings. The cost of discipleship teaches that we all have to pass through the same treatments so as to be called Children of God and disciples of Jesus Christ. Jesus’ disciples should avoid actions that result in breaking of the commandments.

The followers of Jesus should always strive for spiritual wealth. Material wealth is slow poison to spiritual riches. Becoming a Christian disciple means one has been brought on a price and they are not their own as they are now a slave of Christ who then owns everything. Christ should come first before earthly possessions.

Christ told His followers the stories of two young men to explain the impact of wealth on Christianity. The rich young man would not sacrifice his riches for the sake of God. The other wanted to follow Jesus but after burying his dead father but Christ told him to let the dead bury the dead.
